TTWF Report: “Expanding Child Literacy with Recycled Smartphones”

Introduction: My name is Will Pinto, and I am a senior at The Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland. I participate in my school’s Entrepreneurship Signature Program, and I plan to major in Business in college.

I had the opportunity to conduct my summer internship with Teach the World Foundation where I could combine my passions for developing business models and helping others. At first, I planned on studying ways to increase internet coverage, but I quickly realized that the problem today is not with cellular access, but with access to devices. Given how many unused devices sit in drawers around the world, I think we have a big opportunity to expand literacy rates by redistributing these phones, and I look forward to continuing my work to make this idea a reality.
