What is our MicroSchool program?

Our MicroSchool model is an innovative solution designed to bring learning opportunities to underserved communities with high concentrations of out-of-school children that lack the basic infrastructure required for education. It focuses on establishing one-room schools, powered by cutting-edge digital learning software, which can be set up quickly in both formal and informal settings.

On average, each MicroSchool accommodates up to 25 children per session and operates multiple 2-hour shifts throughout the day, serving up to 100 learners. These facilities are equipped with tablets that feature gamified e-learning applications, offering self-paced, interactive educational experiences. Managed by locally hired facilitators, typically women from the community, these MicroSchools not only provide essential educational access but also foster safe and supportive learning environments. This model is particularly effective in remote or high-risk areas where traditional schools are either absent or inaccessible, and the shorter shifts allow learners to support their families while continuing their education.

Our first MicroSchools were launched in Bihari refugee camps in Dhaka and the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and we expanded our program to Pakistan in 2021. This program has attracted philanthropic interest from individual donors as well as businesses across Pakistan. Our corporate partners for this program include Arbisoft, Engro, TRG, Ibex, and Afiniti. Alongside support from the private sector, this program has also captured the attention of the Government of Sindh who are currently partnering with us to establish 100 MicroSchools by the end of 2024, as a solution to rapidly enroll Sindh’s out-of-school children.

Our MicroSchool Program

Why are we doing it?

In Pakistan alone, 22.5 million children are out of school, primarily due to a shortage of teachers and schools. With the current population growth, the number of out-of-school children there is forecasted to exceed 40 million by 2030.

Our MicroSchools aim to address this urgent issue, providing immediate and sustainable educational opportunities. The program's rapid scalability means we can open a new school every three days, allowing us to swiftly respond to educational needs, even in the most resource-constrained regions. By empowering communities with these versatile learning hubs, we have created a model that can be expanded globally. The global education crisis is one which we can solve in our lifetime and we believe our MicroSchools model can pave the way.

Where we are today

At Teach The World Foundation, we've already touched the lives of countless students in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Malawi through our innovative MicroSchool program. But this is just the beginning. Our vision is to transform the educational landscape for at least 20,000 more students and establish 125 new schools in Sindh, Pakistan alone. And we don't plan to stop there—we aim to open thousands more schools worldwide. The potential for change is limitless, and every new MicroSchool brings us closer to a brighter future for children everywhere.

Our outcomes from the field paint a powerful picture of the impact we're making. Our MicroSchool programs have sparked a newfound motivation in students, boosting their confidence, eagerness to learn, and digital literacy skills. These are stories of lives being transformed through education.
